If you’re going to host your own display, keep these safety tips in mind:

  • Check to make sure the fireworks you’re using are legal in your area.
  • Have a hose, bucket of water or fire extinguisher handy.
  • The person(s) handling fireworks should wear safety glasses.
  • Use an extended lighting device.
  • Use fireworks only as instructed.
  • Never alter or combine fireworks – only light one at a time.
  • Don’t try to relight a “dud.”  Wait 20 minutes and then soak it in water.
  • Don’t ever look into the tube of a firework, or put any part of your body over the top of one.
  • Never light fireworks indoors.
